Juvederm™ Ultra – Bella Rosa

By Houston Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr. Mark A. Schusterman, MD, FACS and Nurse Practitioner Melanie Frye, MS, FNP-C

Over time, the skin around your nose and mouth looses elasticity. This can cause moderate to severe wrinkles known as laugh lines, “parentheses” or folds between the edges of the nose and lip, and “marionette lines”or lines forming from the corners of the mouth down to the chin. Lips, tear troughs (skin below the eyes) and cheeks can also loose volume and cause a tired or aged appearance. Fortunately, Bella Rosa offers Juvederm Ultra as a treatment option for your facial rejuvenation program.

JA naturally-occurring substance found in the body, Juvederm is a dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid, which has a smooth consistency. When injected into the dermis, Juvederm adds volume to fill in unsightly wrinkles and even increase skin hydration.

Why Juvederm?

Exposure to the sun, environmental pollutants, and general aging causes your skin cells to gradually lose hyaluronic acid. As your cells age, hyaluronic acid dissipates, causing your dermis to become dehydrated, which in turn causes the elastin and collagen fibers to lose their internal structure. Over time this results in drier, thinner skin that is more prone to wrinkles. Juvederm temporarily replaces lost hyaluronic acid with its own natural formulation of hyaluronic acid.

What Are The Advantages of Juvederm?

Tailored Treatment: Whether you need to correct only surface wrinkles or take care of deeper wrinkles and folds, Juvederm has a solution for you. Juvederm Ultra adds volume to dehydrated, aging skin, helping to re-contour surface wrinkles. For deeper lines, Juvederm Ultra Plus is a more robust formulation that will help fill in and reduce those deep-seated wrinkles more easily. Your skilled Bella Rosa technician provider will help you decide which formulation will have the best results for your particular needs.

How Long Does Juvederm Last?

Generally, each treatment can last up to six months, though sometimes the affects can persist for up to a year. To maintain the best possible results, regular touch-ups and maintenance may be needed.

What Is The Recovery Time for Juvederm?

Juvederm Ultra is injected using a precise microneedle, which means the injection sites experience minimal irritation. The discomfort is negligible, which means you can return to your regular routine with no interruptions. You’ll get the results you are looking for with no swelling or down-time.

What Is The Juvederm Treatment Procedure?

In your initial consultation, your Bella Rosa technician provider will discuss your desired results and examine the wrinkles around your nose and mouthyour problem area to determine which Juvederm formula will work best for your needs. Fortunately, Juvederm is an all-natural substance already present in the body, so there is no chance of allergic reaction. Anesthesia is not required, though a topical analgesic may be used to numb the injection site to lessen potential discomfort. It is important that you discuss any medications you may currently be taking in your initial consultation to determine if special instructions will be needed.

The procedure itself if fast and simple. Using a precise microneedle, the Juvederm gel is injected into the dermis in the desired areas, which takes about fifteen minutes. The gel reduces wrinkles by plumping the skin and increasing its natural moisture.

What Happens After the Juvederm Treatment Process?

In general, side effects are mild or moderate and could include slight pain, itching, redness, bumps, swelling, and firmness around the injection sites. You can help reduce recovery time by avoiding strenuous activity, minimizing exposure to sun and heat, and by avoiding alcohol. The side effects will take approximately seven days to clear completely. Ice packs can help reduce redness and swelling. Bella Rosa is always available to answer questions after treatment.

No Down Time: Juvederm is injected into the dermis using an ultra fine needle causing minimal discomfort. Results are almost immediate, and you’ll be back to your regular routine right away.

Juvederm Treatment Procedure

Before your treatment, you will meet with the Director of Spa Services to discuss your desired results. The wrinkles and folds around your nose and mouth will be examined to determine their depth and which appropriate Juvederm formulation to use, Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Ultra Plus. Because Juvederm is made of a substance found naturally in the body, there is no need for an allergy test. Anesthesia is not required for the Juvederm treatment but may be used to numb the treatment site. During this initial meeting, you will also be given special instructions regarding medications you may currently be taking.

The treatment process is quick and easy, and you’ll be back to your normal routine with no downtime. The Juvederm gel is injected under the skin, into the dermis to plump up the skin, reduce wrinkles and folds, as well as help to moisturize the skin tissue, revitalizing the treated areas. The procedure takes about 15 minutes.

After the Juvederm Treatment Process

There is minimal recovery or downtime. However, following your Juvederm treatment, avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun and heat, and consumption of alcoholic beverages to minimize the risk of temporary swelling, redness, and/or itching at the treatment sites. Side effects are mild to moderate and may include redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Side effects will clear up on their own in 7 days or less. You can apply ice to the treatment site if swelling occurs, and call Bella Rosa if you have any questions following your Juvederm treatment.
