As you would expect, larger areas of hair removal take more time, so the procedure can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours. The Soprano™ XL laser uses a gentle beam of light to instantaneously disable hair follicles within the target area. Because of the DualChill™ technology already built in to the laser, no, only certain treatment areas require the use of topical anesthetics or cooling gels devices are needed to prevent burning sensations. As you would expect, larger areas of hair removal take more time, so the procedure can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours.

Because hair follicles regenerate in cycles, laser hair removal is an ongoing process. Multiple sessions are required since the laser only affects hair that is in the early-growth phase, meaning follicles that are active at the time of treatment. Therapy sessions will need to be continued repeatedly to ensure all follicles are hit within the proper phase, since some are dormant while others are active. Once all follicles have been disabled, hair growth will cease. Typical areas for hair removal require an average of 6-8 sessions; however certain areas may require more treatments. Localized, temporary swelling may occur immediately after treatment, along with slight reddening of the affected area. Be sure to protect treated areas with sunscreen before prolonged sun exposure to prevent irritation. In general, there is no time needed for recovery and normal activities may be resumed immediately, with the exception of sun exposure and tanning. It is advised to avoid tanning in a tanning bed or obtaining sun exposure to the treated areas at least 4 weeks prior to and 4 weeks after the procedure in order to increase the efficacy of the treatment and avoid burns and other unnecessary complications.
