Botox is usually used as an anti-aging treatment option, and is a minor procedure, which is carried out through an injection. However, like any other medical procedure, it is better to consult your doctor before you get yourself a Botox injection.

Though you just have to get an injection for your Botox treatment, you have to get it from a reputable medical practitioner. This is because it is largely available from shady sources; however you have to be careful and get your treatment from a licensed medical professional.

Discuss any doubts you have about Botox; like its possible complications and side effects. Though there are no long term side effects associated with Botox injections, you may experience nausea, tenderness at the injection site, headache and eyelid droop.

Make sure you discuss post procedure activities to avoid after your treatment. You may be advised to apply an ice pack to your injection site to prevent bruising and swelling and to avoid strenuous exercise for at least a day. The Botox injection site shouldn’t be massaged and you shouldn’t lie down for about 3-4 hours after the injection.

It’s also better to apply an ice pack to the injection site a few minutes before the injection as preparation for the jab. This is to reduce the injection pain and swelling, which is especially required if you have a low tolerance to pain. Otherwise, this will not be necessary as Botox injections are similar to an insect bite.

People who get regular Botox injections tend to take over the counter ibuprofen to reduce the pan and swelling of the injection.

If you get your Botox injections from unlicensed practitioners, you may suffer from various complications. This is because you never know if the injection you receive is safe and properly formulated for cosmetic use.
If you wish to return to work immediately after getting your Botox treatment perhaps during your lunch break, it’s better to bring some concealing makeup to camouflage the redness and bruising that results from the injection.

Last, but not least, you have to find out how much you have to pay for your Botox injections and have the amount ready at the time of the procedure. Remember that because Botox is a cosmetic procedure, you cannot expect any insurance coverage.
