He is a graduate of Emory University and the University of Louisville School of Medicine.He received his general surgery training at the University of Cincinnati, and his plastic surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh.He received his certificate from the American Board of Surgery in 1987 and from the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1989.He became a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons in 1990.

He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons.He previously served as President of the Houston Society of Plastic Surgeons.
